Attributing an Artist: NIKI
Attributing an Artist: NIKI
I first discovered NIKI through the 88rising media production company, which I've spoken about before in a previous article. When they released their group collaboration album, with stars like Joji and Rich Brian involved, I heard her fantastic voice and knew straight away she was something special on the rise. NIKI, like others on the 88rising label, is a personality beyond her voice and music, which makes her a great artist to follow all year round, rather than letting yourself be surprised by the occasional album or single. This is so important in music these days, especially considering how long artists can take on projects, as people want to relate and interact with their favourite artists. NIKI offers this to her fans, allowing them to stay in touch with her life, making her feel more like a friend than just someone we like listening to.
Recently, NIKI released a new single titled 'move!', with a fantastically simple text based video, that still has visual consistency. The new track showcases what NIKI is all about, as well as being a seriously good vocalist, she exemplifies how just having fun with your tracks, your videos and your lyrics can really boost the appeal of a song- and herself as well. I'll link her new track below for you to listen to, and make your own opinion on.
Like fellow artist Rich Brian, NIKI is Indonesian in origin. Her real name is Nicole Zefanya, and considering her age of 20 (being born in 1999) she's doing extremely well for herself. An artist of her age, defies expectations with the maturity of her 'sound', if you will, her lyrics certainly demonstrate a life experience beyond her years, which makes her far more appealing as an artist.
Her music style is focused around a mainly pop vibe, with definite inspiration coming from contemporary R&B music. Her music shows strong influence from artists like Jennifer Lopez and Ariana Grande, with a very strong voice that blossoms in those higher notes, and that classic J-Lo sultry sound. Her music is simply seductive, and you could easily listen to any one of her songs on repeat.
